Hawkhurst is an affluent village and Parish about 12 miles South East of Royal Tunbridge Wells. The village was made famous by smugglers in the mid 1700s and Barnardo's Children's Home in 1886. There are two distinct areas: The Moor to the South with a mixture of attractive cottages clustered around the village green, and Highgate to the North featuring a colonnade of independent shops, country pubs, a hotel, digital cinema as well as supermarkets for day to day needs. Marlborough House School is an independent Co Ed with around 340 pupils with ages ranging between 3 and 13. Also to choose from Hawkhurst Church or England School, St Ronans Prep School and Cranbrook Co Ed Grammar School with ages 13+. Nearby places to visit include 14th Century Scotney Castle, historic Sissinghurst Castle as well as Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, a 300-acre Pinetum which contains over 12,000 trees and shrubs from across 5 continents. There are excellent road and rail links servicing the community with regular mainline services into London from nearby Staplehurst and Etchingham Station and easy access to the road network via the A21.
